Why BAVARIA sailing yachts are ideal for yacht sharing
Co-ownership of a Bavaria yacht
Owning a Bavaria sailing yacht together – co-ownership with an all-round service
The dream of owning your own sailing yacht accompanies many sailors for years. At the same time, more and more prospective buyers are asking themselves whether the classic sole ownership model is still the most sensible solution today. A yacht is often only used for a few weeks a year, but incurs year-round costs for berth, maintenance, insurance and care.
That is precisely why yacht sharing – also known as yacht co-ownership or co-ownership – is becoming increasingly important. Several owners jointly purchase a high-quality sailing yacht, share the investment and ongoing costs, and at the same time benefit from professional support.
Our many years of experience as the exclusive BAVARIA dealer for Southern Germany, Austria and Croatia repeatedly shows one thing: BAVARIA sailing yachts are ideally suited to shared yacht ownership. They combine quality, comfort, ease of handling and strong value retention – qualities that are crucial in yacht sharing.
Why more and more sailors are rethinking yacht ownership
The desire to own your own yacht remains – but expectations have changed. Many sailors want ownership, but would like to reduce capital commitment and organisational effort.
Yacht sharing closes exactly this gap. It combines the emotional bond with your own yacht with economically sensible use. Instead of financing and managing a yacht alone, several owners share purchase costs, operating costs and responsibility.
Especially for sailors who are out on the water for several weeks per season, this creates an attractive alternative between a classic yacht purchase and chartering.
Important: Yacht sharing from Yachten Meltl is not a club model. The shareholders acquire genuine co-ownership of a specific BAVARIA sailing yacht and receive contractually defined usage periods.

“In our consultations, we repeatedly find that prospective yacht buyers are looking for an alternative to sole ownership of a Bavaria sailing yacht or a purchase-charter model.
With our co-ownership model, we offer an attractive alternative.”

Why Bavaria is the ideal brand for yacht sharing
Not every sailing yacht meets the same requirements. A yacht used by several owners must be versatile, durable and uncomplicated.
Generous space concepts
BAVARIA sailing yachts offer bright saloons, spacious cockpits and well-thought-out cabin layouts. This means different crews feel equally at home on board – whether a couple, family or friends.
Easy handling
The models in the BAVARIA C-LINE can be sailed comfortably with a small crew or as a couple. Modern deck layouts and balanced sailing characteristics make handling significantly easier and ensure that every co-owner quickly becomes familiar with the yacht.
Strong value retention
BAVARIA is an established quality brand with high recognition, good spare parts availability and a strong dealer network. This creates trust and supports long-term value retention – an important aspect of shared ownership.
Custom equipment
Unlike a classic charter yacht, the equipment is tailored to the owners’ wishes. Navigation, comfort and technical options are based on the personal usage profile, not on the requirements of charter operations.

Which BAVARIA models are particularly suitable?
BAVARIA C38
The BAVARIA C38 is ideal for couples and smaller families. It combines modern design with surprisingly generous space and excellent sailing characteristics.
BAVARIA C42
The multi-award-winning BAVARIA C42 impresses with an innovative hull shape, high living comfort and easy handling. It is one of the most popular models for cruising sailors.
BAVARIA C46
The BAVARIA C46 offers flexible cabin layouts, a spacious cockpit and plenty of comfort for longer cruises. It is particularly suitable for owner groups with different requirements.
BAVARIA C50
If you are looking for maximum size and comfort, the BAVARIA C50 is an exclusive cruising yacht with generous living spaces and outstanding sailing characteristics.
Value Retention is an Often Underestimated Factor
The purchase price is only part of the total cost.
Equally important is the question of how a yacht can be resold after a few years.
Well-known shipyards with high brand recognition often benefit from consistent demand in the used boat market. Good build quality, regular maintenance, and a traceable history also contribute to maintaining value in the long term.
Anyone considering a sailing yacht as a long-term investment should take this aspect into account when making their selection.

True co-ownership instead of yacht club
Many offers advertise with terms such as yacht sharing or boat club.
In reality, however, the models differ considerably.
Comparison: yacht sharing vs. club membership
With yacht sharing from Yachten Meltl, you purchase fixed shares in a specific BAVARIA sailing yacht together with just a few other owners. This creates planning security and a personal bond with your own yacht.

Where are the sharing yachts based in Croatia, and how does the handover work?
Our BAVARIA sailing yachts in the co-ownership model are based at strategically ideal starting points in Croatia – preferably in top-class marinas in Dalmatia (e.g. around Biograd, Murter, Trogir and more), which are easy to reach both by car and via the nearby airports. On site, a professional all-round service awaits you: the boat is perfectly prepared for your cruise, handed over clean, and after your return it is immediately serviced and cleaned professionally again. You don’t have to deal with any bureaucratic or technical details on site.
How fairly are the sailing weeks in Croatia’s peak season allocated?
Usage periods are allocated via a fair, transparent and proven allocation system. Each co-owner receives a contractually guaranteed number of weeks per year, split between the sought-after peak season in Croatia (June to September) and the wonderful sailing months of the shoulder season (spring and autumn). The system ensures that all owners have rotating access to the best sailing weeks on the Adriatic, without any scheduling conflicts.
Who takes care of maintenance, the Croatian authorities and winter storage?
One of the biggest advantages of the yacht sharing model from Yachten Meltl is the worry-free full-service yacht management. Together with our long-standing Nautic Alliance partners on site in Croatia, we handle the complete administrative processing (such as Croatian registrations, insurance and berth contracts) as well as all technical maintenance. This includes regular antifouling, engine servicing, sail checks and professional winterising. As a co-owner, you simply share the operating costs, while the organisational effort for you drops to virtually zero.
